Welcome!
WE...
WE ARE BASED IN THE CAPITAL OF EUROPE
Brussels. The capital of Belgium. A vibrant capital where there is always something happening. Brussels boasts a wealth of history, architecture, gastronomy and culture. From the Grand Place, the Atomium and Manneken Pis to the Comic Strip Museum, but Brussels has so much more to offer.... As well as fascinating events, exhibitions and shows, Brussels is also the cradle of the European institutions and all its conferences and activities. It is not for nothing that Brussels is called the capital of Europe. Vibrant, welcoming and warm. Step into the heart of Europe, welcome to the VUB.
THE LAW IS OUR COMMON THREAD
Our Department of Public Law is highly diverse, cherishes a variety of passions and is home to many talents and specialisations, but everyone shares one common trait: the law as the common thread running through their lives. With a strong sense of justice, we work to ensure legal certainty for the sake of a well-functioning and robust rule of law. Whether through research or teaching the law, by working in and on the law, we help others, contribute to fair legal proceedings, support right holders, promote scholarship and equality before the law, encourage respect for human rights, and not only work towards a better national, European and international society, but also hope to influence the flourishing of the next generation. There are plenty of challenges!
WE HAVE FIVE AMBITIOUS AREAS OF SPECIALISATION
The Department of Public Law is part of the Faculty of Law & Criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Our department has five academic specialisations, within which each of us focuses on various areas of law. From human rights to European law, from criminal law to international maritime law, and from European competition law to migration law, to name but a few examples, all specialisations contribute to inspiring and advancing our fields of study.
Our five fields of study:
Tax Law
International and European Law
Social Law
Constitutional and Administrative Law
Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure
