The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has officially nominated Brussels Centre for Law, Government and Society (BruCeL) member Ezéchiel Amani Cirimwami as a candidate for election as a judge of the International Criminal Court, with elections scheduled for December 2026. Professor Cirimwami is also an alumnus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he obtained his PhD in International Law in 2023. He combines experience as a judge, prosecutor, academic, and international counsel, including appearances before major international courts. Currently Associate Professor at VUB and Visiting Professor at UCLouvain and the Royal Military Academy of Belgium, his work focuses on international criminal law, humanitarian law, and international adjudication. Presented under List B, his candidacy reflects recognised expertise in public international law alongside substantial experience in criminal law and procedure.
This nomination, transmitted to the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, reflects the confidence of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in his expertise, integrity, and ability to contribute to the Court’s mandate.
